UWI linguistics lecturer, Ben Braithwaite, whose research interests are directly related to TTSL (Trinidad and Tobago Sign Language). His publications include: Braithwaite, Ben, Kathy-Ann Drayton and Alicia Lamb. “The History of Deaf Language and Education in Trinidad and Tobago since 1943.” History in Action 2.1 (March 2011): 12-17. Ian Dhanoolal is a teacher, researcher, interpreter and advocate for the Deaf community in Trinidad and Tobago. He is a resource for stories told in TTSL as well as the first Caribbean recipient of the Edward Miner Gallaudet Award (2019). This award is presented to a deaf or hearing leader from any place in the world who is working to promote the well-being of deaf people worldwide. We have two UWI undergraduate students, Marlon Hyde and Latisha Street, who are new to signing, interpreting for us.
